what even was the point of this show? like i’m genuinely curious. what was the point of jon’s parentage reveal. what was the point of him being resurrected if he didn’t kill the night king. what was the point of establishing a prophecy foretelling cersei would die by her brother’s hand when that didn’t happen. what was the point of setting daenerys up as a just ruler who wanted to make the world better. what was the point of jaime’s entire character arc. what was the point.
the people who have a superiority complex bc they dont watch game of thrones were always right
so are the people who didn’t claim it was the best thing on tv
it’s expensive, not groundbreaking. there’s a difference.
I persevered until like season 3 but then gave up when it failed to have even slightly enthrall me, and from then on read episode recaps from time to time. Now I know what’s happening from twitter mainly
Anyway I always knew that introducing 50000 characters as a substitute for creating a small to sizeable number that would demand compelling characterisation was an indication in the deficiency of the writer’s ability. And also that creating a preponderance of storylines that meandered about the place meant most of them wouldn’t be given a conclusion, as is always the case. Chekhov’s gun is so important to a narrative and I’ve literally never seen in deployed in GOT, at least not satisfyingly. ATLA, HP and LOTR are some of my favourite stories of all time (that also happen to be fantasy). There weren’t massively obvious loose ends that needed to be tied up at their conclusions. Sure there may have been plot holes here and there but on the whole, the larger story arcs had fitting and satisfying endings… and characters didn’t have personality transplants in order to advance the plot…. the plot moved in accordance with character personalities and growth.
I think with GOT many viewers just had steadfast faith that the writers would get things back on track, even when in I think season 6 there were indications things were going off the rail. They were obstinate that even when the story was bad or boring or whatever it was just critics nitpicking. Like…I’ve seen enough TV to know the best shows can turn to dog shit in only a few episodes, generally after season 3 onwards. True Blood was great the first couple seasons and then nosedived fourth season onwards. Misfits… Being Human… Outlander… at some stage you have to cut your losses and acknowledge it was great up to a certain point. Even tho I don’t like GOT I empathise with having a show precious to you fucked up by writers :(
